I hate darkness. I do not know. I do not like being in a dark room, especially where the room is so small and completely dark. Being in a dark room always makes me feels panic. I feel breathless, I’m sweating, shaking, and my heart is beating so fast. I feel insecure because I cannot see anything.  I feel a sensation of detachment from reality. It feels like there is something that will attack me, whether it is ghost, animal, or people. I wonder what kind of feeling is this. Later, I know that it is known as Nyctophobia.

Nyctophobia means fear of night or darkness. It is also known as Scotophobia. Nyctophobia is an extreme and irrational anxiety response to darkness where we know we are safe. Nyctophobia is present when you are frightened beyond more than the circumstances or object would cause, and for these circumstances, there may be absolutely no reason whatsoever for you to be afraid about, like in our bedroom. The symptoms include breathlessness, nausea, excessive sweating, vomiting, dry mouth, shaking, heart palpitations, inability to speak or think clearly, a fear of dying, becoming mad or losing control, a sensation of detachment from reality or a full blown anxiety attack.
There are a few reasons why you are plagued by Nyctophobia. First, the sufferer may be experiencing some inner conflicts that he finds difficult to find a solution to. Hence to help him release some of his pent up feelings, he externalizes them on the darkness. Second is traumatized by an occurrence. Research has shown that Nyctophobia may be a result from a traumatic event that may have occurred to the phobic.
There are several ways to deal with Nyctophobia. First, speak to a professional about this problem. If it goes untreated, it may lead to other problems such as sleep disorders and night blindness. Second, use desensitization. This gradually increases exposure to the object of fear in a non-threatening situation. For nyctophobia, try facing the darkness with another person that brings a feeling of safety, such as a parent or good friend. Also the use of a night light may work, especially for children. Third, learn self help techniques that reduce anxiety. These include breathing techniques and self talk. By decreasing anxiety while facing the object of fear, the phobia can gradually be overcome. Fourth, get hypnotized. This may be used in extreme circumstances. Hypnosis can be very effective in treating phobias and may be considered if this fear is carried into adulthood or causes severe sleep deprivation. Fifth, get medication prescribed. This should be done by a responsible professional and may be used only in extreme cases. Often antidepressants help alleviate anxiety that phobias bring, and in the case of nyctophobia, sleep aids may be helpful.
Most sufferers are surprised to learn that they are far from alone in this surprisingly common, although often unspoken, Nyctophobia. So do I. I am not sure that I have a traumatic event that makes me so fear of the darkness, so I’m still confuse why I suffer this phobia. Anyway, thanks to Thomas Alfa Edison for invented the light bulb.

Nowadays, almost all children have their own room in their house, so do I. I love my room and it is so important for me. Why? Because it is the only room in my house where I have my own privacy and feel free to do anything, like singing loudly, drawing, listening to the music, crying, reading books, anything. I often lock the door so that nobody will disturb me. I am also often decorating it when I am in the mood and I have some inspiration to make some change there.

Well, my room is located in the second floor beside the living room. Now, the room color is orange and yellow. I decided to change it about two months ago. When you open the door, the first thing that you will see is my desk. I actually rarely use the table to study (I rarely study), so it is a little bit dusty. Beside the desk, in the right side, there is a bookcase where is no book in it. It is empty, because all of the books are in my dormitory house. On the left side, there is a table with a DVD player on it, but that thing is no use, because I do not have a television in my room. I only use it to play music CD, or cassette. If you looked up, there is a Styrofoam where I used to put some photos on it. There are also some posters on the wall. My bed is in the corner, beside the wardrobe. Near the bed, there is a cupboard to put some dolls, novels, and comics on it. Near the door, there is another door to go to the balcony. Beside the balcony door, there is a pair of windows to look outside. I always open the curtain every morning, so the sunshine can enter my room.

My room is neither big nor small. It is big enough for me, because I do not have to share it with anybody. I often change the way it looks by decorating it, so I will always feel comfortable to be there. My own room is the only room where I can express myself, and have my privacy. That is my room description. Hope you can imagine it.

*1 month Ockto, Small and Skinny.*

I have a pet in my house. He is a male kitten that given by my classmate just about 4 months ago. His name is Ockto, and his fur colors are black and white. Before I brought him to my house, his name was Rocky. My mother changed his name because she thought that this kitten is very energetic and nimble, just like Ockto Maniani, a timnas (Tim Nasional) soccer player.
*Ockto Plays with a Kitten Doll*
All that Ockto does every day are only eat-play-sleep-eat-play-sleep (is there any cat does anything other than these?). He loves to run around the house. He bites and chews everything that he finds, like doll, tissue, even a hair bun. Cockroach is the most favorite thing that he loves to play with. If he finds one, will play it until the cockroach choked to death, and then eat it. Disgusting? Yes, I think so. Therefore, every time I see he wants to eat cockroach, I will throw it away from him. The only time that he will stop playing is when he fells hungry or sleepy.
*Ockto on the table*
Ockto is a voracious cat. He eats everything. Meat, fish, chicken, chocolate, potato chips, cereal, biscuit, tahu tempe, vegetable, and many more. He even had to steal my chocolate from my desk. I think he is a kind of a smart cat. I notice that he only wants to turn his head if someone called him Ockto. If you call him with another name, don’t ever expect he will turn his head to you. Even so, Ockto is a very friendly cat. He is never afraid of a stranger.
*4 months old Ockto*
I really love Ockto. He is a very funny and smart cat, even though he is also a naughty and greedy cat. He often made a mistake. Sometimes, the mistakes that he made were made me very angry. However, every time he made it, I will easily forgive him because his innocent face always makes my heart melt. He is growing bigger now, I think i'm great enough of taking care of animals.
