There are a few reasons why you are plagued by Nyctophobia. First, the sufferer may be experiencing some inner conflicts that he finds difficult to find a solution to. Hence to help him release some of his pent up feelings, he externalizes them on the darkness. Second is traumatized by an occurrence. Research has shown that Nyctophobia may be a result from a traumatic event that may have occurred to the phobic.
Having a child is one of the most beautiful God gift in this world. Many couples want to have a child after they get married, they often do some efforts that believed could increase the possibility to have child. However, there are some couples or mothers who want to “terminate” her pregnancy. The reasons may vary, from being the victim of rape, extramarital sexual, until they already have many children. For me, even though they have strong reason to have an abortion, I do not think that they can be excused to kill their own child. I believe that abortion should not be legalized.
Abortion is immoral. An unborn child is still human after all and every human have the right to life. Abortion is a crime against life. No one has the right to kill another human, even the unborn one. It has to be illegal just like murder does. Furthermore, Abortion is also a threat to the mother's health. A woman can suffer an infection or internal bleeding. She could also become sterilized, the permanent inability to bear a child. Abortion not only kills the baby but may kill the mother too. During an abortion, despite the use of local anesthesia, most of the women who have an abortion report severe pain, and if a more powerful drug is used she could suffer dangerous side effects. Many complications are common after an abortion, like inflammation of the reproductive organs.
None of the methods women use to abort are completely safe, both legal and illegal abortion. If there is a person says that legal abortion is safe, it is completely wrong. In fact, legal abortion is not safe abortion; legal abortion is just as unsafe as illegal abortion. Both of legal and illegal abortion has the same risk to affect the mother’s health, such as infection and hemorrhage. Moreover, the baby's mother not only has to deal with physical consequences, but also psychological problems that could last for a lifetime. Women that abort usually suffer severe traumas after it, especially if the abortion is not completely success.
For me, the conclusion is obvious; abortion should be illegal for all case as it is violating someone’s right to life, and the risk of abortion is cannot be avoided even though the mother have a legal abortion, because both illegal and legal abortion do not have a completely safe methods.
Language is a bridge for human to understand each other. Without language, it is so hard to communicate and make other people understand what we mean. There are many kind of language in this world. Nowadays, a language that has been determined as the universal language is English. This universal language is very helpful, because with a universal language we don’t have to learn all languages in the world just to understand what other people, especially foreign people talk about. At least there are only two languages that have to be learned, English and our own national language. However, even English is very important; it doesn’t mean we have to speak English all the time.
English is necessary. Without English, our friendship will be restricted to domestic societies. One of the ways to master English is practicing, both speaking and writing. But for me, it does not have to be done all the time, because if we do that, we will slowly forget about our native language. Using English is good, but not all the time, because English is not our national language. There is a time that we should use English, for example in a business meeting, to speak with foreigner, etc.
It is not good to only have one language in this world. Language is one of one country’s identities. If all of world society using English all the time, even though it is not their national language, then people will slowly forget their national language. The new generation also will never heard of their national language as all people in their country are using English. Other languages existence will be gone and it will be only one language in this world, English. It is not good at all, because language is one of many things that make one country different with another country, if it disappears, then all country will be the same.
Some people claim that English is important to face globalization era. I admit it is true. English is something that must be mastered in today’s society as we face the globalization era, which everything is written and spoken with English in international world. But, if we have to speak English all the time, it is possible that we will forget our Indonesian language. If in the end we can master English very well, but we forget about our mother language, then it will be meaningless. I mean, if we have mastered it, just use it whenever you need. Speak your mother language to interact with Indonesian people in informal situation. Make the use of those balanced, so that none of those will be forgotten.
In conclusion, I agree if English is important as today’s society is facing the globalization era, but for me, just use it whenever you need, so that our mother language will not be forgotten.
Euthanasia is one of the most controversial issues in today’s society. Also known as assisted suicide, physician-assisted suicide (dying), doctor-assisted dying (suicide), and more loosely termed “mercy killing”, Euthanasia basically means to take a deliberate action with the express intention of ending a life to relieve intractable suffering. Some interpret euthanasia as the practice of ending a life in a painless manner. Some others say that Euthanasia is immoral. For me, Euthanasia should not be legalized, just like murder does.
Doctors are people who we trust to save and cure us, we regard them as the people who have been trained to save our lives, but euthanasia gives doctors the opportunity to play the role of God. Killing someone is only the God’s right; none of the humans can be allowed to do this. That is why murder someone determined as a crime. A perfect example of an opportunist would be Dr. Jack Kevorkian, better known as "Dr. Death" who took advantage of his patients' sorrows and tragedies and murdered them. In fact, Kevorkian has helped more than 100 people commit suicide and not all of his patients were terminally ill. In addition, in the late 1980s the lunatic created a machine for murder, it was a "suicide machine" that allowed a person by pressing a button, to dispense a lethal dose of medication to himself or herself. Later, Dr. Kevorkian was sentenced to ten to twenty-five years in prison for second-degree murder for providing lethal injection to a seriously ill patient. Dr. Jack Kevorkian, however, is not the only example of a doctor who tried to "play God’s role".
Moreover, most religions teach their followers to believe that God must have a plan behind everything. If God did not kill the patient even though his suffering was severe and unbearable, God must have God’s own reason. Maybe God wanted him to be more patient and not easily give up or maybe God have a plan to make him recover although not in a short time. None of the humans knows when the death will come, except God.
People who agree with Euthanasia argued that let someone who is suffering from severe disease is only creating an economic burden. This is just wasting time and money on a situation that won’t get better. They also cannot endure to see the one they loved is suffering too long. I do not agree with this idea, because if they really love him, they will provide everything that he need to keep him alive, or even to cure him. Those reasons are not only vain; as a matter of fact those are very selfish.
For me, Euthanasia is something that should not be legalized. Legalizing it is just the same as legalizing murder. Life is a gift, not a choice. Practices such as Euthanasia violate this vital concept of human society.
It is generally not very safe for teens to be out at night on their own. Parents can prevent many problems by requiring their children to return home early, especially if they are too young. Midnight life is full of something bad for teenagers especially girl. In many cases, teenagers, become the victims of several crimes, even doing the crime itself. Moreover, teens are sitting ducks for the criminals. As it is dark and there are not many people around, they become more vulnerable and look so weak and also easy to be attack. That is why the criminal often use teenagers as targets of their crimes. With curfew, it is expected to protect adolescent from crime at night.
Every country has its own customs, which are different from the other country, as well as Indonesia. Indonesia has so many customs, some of which are good and some others are bad. Most of Indonesian customs are influenced by Islamic customs or Arabian customs because majority people in Indonesia are Muslims, for example mudik (return to the hometown on the Lebaran day, in order to see parents to apologize each other), kissing the elder hand, mutual assistance (more often done to clean up the environment or build something), and many more. One of the good customs of Indonesian people is taking a bath at least twice a day.
In Indonesia, shower is a ritual that must be done before doing the daily activities. Before going outside, Indonesian people always take a bath; complete with brush their teeth to make sure everybody will not get disturbed by a bad odor from his body. For them, perfume is not enough, although obviously perfume can make their bodies smell good. Indonesian people also take a bath for their body to feel fresh and not sticky with sweat. With a fresh body, the mind will also become fresh, and they will eager to do their activities, especially outside. When they returned home, they will shower again to clean up their body. With a clean and fresh body, they will able to sleep more comfortably.
Indonesian people will hide the truth if they did not take a bath when they meet someone outside in the morning. They will not openly say that they had not showered, because they will just get embarrassed. In Indonesia, people who do not take a bath in the morning are judged as a sloven. If someone is known had not take a bath while in their workplace or at school, usually the people around him will called him a sloven and tease him until he feel ashamed. Not taking a bath, especially in the morning is an embarrassing thing in Indonesia.
I am not really sure if foreign people do the same habit too. From the TV shows or movie that I saw, when they wake up in the morning, they only will brush his teeth, and then change their clothes. After that, they will go outside to work or doing other daily activities. I am sure if this shower-twice-a-day habit is adopted by the foreign people, it will be very good, because taking a bath can prevent disease and it is a part of hygiene.
International cultural exhibition is important for those who want to make their country known internationally. If I became the one that organized this event for Indonesia, and asked to send something from my culture to represent Indonesia in this international cultural exhibition, I would choose something traditional, yet not out-of-date. This thing is kebaya. I would send some beautiful models who wear kebaya, to show the world that our kebaya is perfectly beautiful.
If we try to define what a kebaya is, it may prove to be difficult as it is constantly changing to reflect the changing times and fashions that Indonesia is experiencing. Nonetheless, it is possible to make some generalizations about the kebaya. Most kebaya are made from a lace brocade. Most kebaya fabric uses a floral motif either printed or woven into the textile and its length can fall somewhere from above the waist to below the knee. It usually, but not always, has long sleeves. It is usually fastened at the front, and if not, then gives a semblance of doing so. Some variations of the kebaya will use a batik sash, which is coordinated with the kain, draped over the shoulder as an added accessory.
Why I choose kebaya to represent my country in the international culture exhibition? Because kebaya is not just a functional piece of clothing but it is also a symbol of Indonesia’s cultural history which represents national symbolism and high fashion too. Kebaya is a traditional dress, but it has never been out-of-date because nowadays many designers have modified kebaya with some modern materials and design, without losing the characteristic of kebaya itself. This is good, because this make the young generations not embarrassed to wear a traditional clothing of their country.
Although women in the market can be seen wearing kebaya, we can also see exquisite variations of them in government gatherings and parties and high society social functions. The beauty of this national dress is undeniable. Some of the most influential women in Indonesia are married in kebaya that can be described as “works of art” with their hand embroidered detailing and beading. Designers such as Anne Avantie have helped to promote the kebaya not only as a important part of Indonesian clothing history but as a very beautiful item of clothing that Indonesian women are proud to wear.
I am sure by sending kebaya to represent Indonesia in international exhibition will make another country interested with our country. It is not impossible that foreign women want to wear kebaya too by looking how beautiful it is. Kebaya makes the one who wear it looks very beautiful, not only Indonesian women, but also women all over the world.
Since I was a kid, English is such an interesting thing for me. I love learn English while some of my friends really hate it. Then, when I have to go to university, I decided to choose the English Department, as it is the only subject that I really falling in love with. English is also necessary as we have to face the globalization era. Here I am, at English Letter Department of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. Honestly, I expected to learn English at the more famous university, such as University of Indonesia, but unfortunately, I did not passed the entrance examination.
Well, I think this English Letter Department is not really bad. It offers a good enough curriculum and good quality lecturers. But I must say that the facilities are bad. There is no air conditioner at all, and it makes the student do not feel comfortable as the weather in Indonesia is very hot. There is only one language laboratory in the seventh floor, while there are so many students who want to use it. The library is also small and old. There are only a few books to be a reference book for the students. Sometimes, the lecturer canceled the lecture very easily, without notice that it is very important to the students. I do not know why, but it seems very easy to cancel it. The department chairman is also seems does not really care about the students.
For those reasons, I have so many expectations of my dearest English Letter Department. I want the lecturers more care about the students, not only think about their own interests. It is obvious that we need good teaching materials in order to be better. This is also applies to the department chairman, to pay more attention to the students. He must make some programs that can make the ability of students improved, such as native speaker lecturer, information of scholarship, direct motivation, and many more. The facilities are also must be increased, so that the student can be more excited and pleased to learn in the campus.
I think my expectations of English Letter Department are not too high. It is still possible to be comes true. I am sure it would be great if English Letter Department make some good changes, both on the facilities and curriculum. Hope the chairman of my department is read this writing and does not mind to make some of those become reality.
Love is a natural thing that happens to everyone in this world. Most of them decide to married. However, there is a kind of marriage between two persons of the same biological sex or social gender that known as same-sex marriage or gay marriage. This is become one of the most controversial issues around today. Some people say that marriage is the right of every people, gay or lesbian is no exception, while some others say that this thing should not be legalized in all country. I prefer the second opinion, because I think gay marriage there is no reason that could be used to legalize it.
Being gay is not natural. Homosexuality is no way related to a nature or genes but a learned habit. If they were natural, then this would not be a debated issue, because something natural will be accepted easily, just like heterosexual does. Moreover, heterosexual marriages are valid because they produce children. Since gay marriage will not produce child, their happiness will be incomplete. Even though the can adopt child, since this issue is still debated and taboo, the fact that his parents are gay will only burdened this child. When their child grows older, he will be bullied by other child because of his parents are different. Besides, likely those gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.
Gay marriage is not supported by religion. Homosexuality is not an acceptable activity in God’s sight. It would no way be condemned in the Quran or Bible. I actually do not know of any religious book, as old as the two above, that promotes this activity. In addition, Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around diligent people will make you diligent. If this thing happened, then it was possible the whole world would be gay and there will be no child produced anymore.
Those who agree of this issue say that same-sex couples deserve the right to marry each other just like heterosexual couples do. For me, this idea is illogical. Even though our country adheres to the principle of democracy that really respects human rights, it does not mean that people are free to do anything that they want. Moreover, every country which law is affected by religions would not legalized homosexuality, because none of the scripture of religions support this activity.
In conclusion, I think same-sex couples should not be allowed to indulge in a matrimonial alliance, because it is unnatural and no child could be produced with that marriage. Mankind will be destroyed if all people in this world are gay and legalizing same sex marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior.
Even though the members are incomplete now, Avenged Sevenfold is still my favorite band. Their music is different, full of spirit and meaning. Their performance is awesome with their excellent skill. Wish I could see them again in their next world tour.
Smoking is like turning on a time bomb. Once you try to smoking, it will be so hard to stop it. It has become fashionable in the world today to smoking. The number of smokers is increases day by day. No one can deny the fact that smoking is harmful, yet used widely. I do not know what is in the smoker’s mind to keep smoking even though it was proven that smoking is harmful. I do not smoke and I still do not get the reason to change my mind, because I still think that there is no advantage of it.
There are many reasons why smoking should be banned, at least in all public places. The most obvious is that it is unhealthy for the smoker. It is known to cause some health problem, as written on the cigarette pack, such as cancer, coronary heart disease, pregnancy and fetal disorders, and also some other respiratory problems. Moreover, all smokers think that by smoking they are only damaging their health. They are ignorant about the fact that their smoking is indirectly affecting others health. Undisputed scientific studies emphasize that secondhand smoke is almost as medically hazardous to exposed non-smokers as it is to the smoker. There is no risk-free level of exposure to secondhand smoke. As tobacco contains more than 400 toxic substances and 400 chemical compounds, it is considered a major killer all over the world.
Smoking is also one of the biggest polluter. Smokers should be aware that they not only endanger they health and other people’s health, they are also one of the direct contributors to the environmental pollution. Cigarettes contain over 4000 chemicals which are exhaled and released into the air and the atmosphere, then polluting it. Furthermore, pollution caused due to smoking is not confined only to the air but to some extent it is also responsible in polluting the land and the water. Every day millions of cigarette butts are left on the ground. Maximum of the cigarette butts finally end up in lakes and rivers. By mistake fishes and other water animals eat these butts resulting in death of these water bodies. The remaining butts left on the ground will approximately take 25-26 years to decompose. The various additives and chemicals are leached into the soil, polluting the soil as well as plants. During dry seasons cigarette butts can even cause major fire, which is even harmful for the environment.
Some smokers stated that smoking undoubtedly helps many people to relax. However, I do not think that we should smoking while there is some other ways to relax. Listening to the music or go to someplace that not too crowded may really help. Non smokers can do some other ways to relax in their own way. It is proven that we can be relaxed without smoking.
In conclusion, I think the world would be a better place without cigarettes. Smokers should be aware that smoking is bad for many reasons. Smoking is more than a habit. It is an addiction. For those who addicted, they need to force themselves to stop, or get into a program that helps them quit. Wake up, Smokers!
