Nowadays, there are so many English courses spread around the world, from the expensive English course to the cheap one. English course become popular since English was considered as universal language and it is become very important to learn English. Some people say that we must take English course to improve our English skill, while some others say that it is not important. I agree with the second opinion, because for me, we do not have to take English course while there are some other cheaper ways to improve it.
English course is expensive. There are some English course that pricing their fee more than one million rupiahs per 3 months. There is an English course that set their fee up to seventeen million rupiahs per year instead. That is crazy, even though it has a good quality. Moreover, most of the cheaper English courses which the fee is reasonable and reachable for the middle class people, do not offer a good quality of its curriculum. These two things prove that only the rich people who can get a good quality education, while the middle class people only can get an education which quality is not too good. Even the poor people sometimes really cannot get an education at all because they do not have enough money to pay it. This condition also a contrary to the government statement, that all of the societies have their rights to get the same education.
Most importantly, English course also not effective. I ever take English course for 6 months, and I do not feel that I get something useful from it. The curriculum is the same with the school has. It just like I take two schools at the same time. Some other even only set the curriculum not seriously, because they only want the money, without thinking about the student English skill improved or not. Furthermore, we have to follow the time that the English course provides. If we take a course at 6 to 8 pm, we have to come at that time. If we missed the class, than we cannot have the materials that explained at that day. The next day, we will have another curriculum we cannot understand it, because oftentimes the next curriculum is related to the previous one.
Some people claim that English course is the best way to improve our English skills. However, there is another way which is better to improve it. It is practicing. Practicing is more effective to improve our English skills, because if we only know the theory without practicing, it is become useless. English course sometimes only give us the theory, without makes us practicing. Whereas, theory can be found anywhere, like in books in the library, or even internet. Yet, practicing is can be done anywhere, like chatting with foreigner, speaking with foreigner in a tourist area, or maybe just speaking with your friend in English. Those things can be done without have to spend some money. If we practicing a lot, our English skills will be improved, without have to take English course.In conclusion, for me English course is not necessary while there are some other effective and cheaper ways to improve our English skill, like practicing. English course is good, as long as it give some useful thing for us. If it is not, it is better to learn English autodidact, by go to the library and practicing it with our friend.
